How We Sustain Our Work

HEAL operates as a revenue-generating nonprofit, combining earned income with donations to support both animal care and trauma-informed, animal-assisted healing programs. Our work supports emotional regulation, nervous system balance, and meaningful connection—particularly for veterans and individuals navigating trauma, grief, and life transitions.
These income streams allow HEAL to provide consistent care for rescued animals while expanding access to healing experiences for individuals and communities in need.

Earned Revenue
Community Support

A portion of HEAL’s funding is generated through programs and experiences that support emotional healing, personal growth, and connection.
These include:
-
Animal-assisted healing sessions and programs
-
Workshops and educational offerings
-
Equine Experiential Learning (EEL) sessions
-
Group programs and immersive experiences
-
Retreats and special events
-
Future training and certification programs
These offerings allow individuals to engage more deeply in the work while directly supporting the ongoing care of the animals.
In addition to earned income, HEAL is supported through:
-
Individual donations
-
Sponsorships
-
Grants and funding opportunities
-
Community partnerships
This support allows us to expand access through scholarships, subsidized programs, and outreach to veterans and underserved populations.

HEAL’s programs are built on the established foundation of Executive Director, Anna Marie Ellison’s, work through Healed by a Horse®, an equine experiential learning and coaching program that has supported individuals in emotional healing, personal growth, and meaningful connection since 2019.
This experience informs the development of HEAL’s offerings and contributes to a sustainable model that integrates both impact and earned revenue.

A Shared Impact
Every program, donation, and experience supports both sides of this work.
Animals receive safety, care, and a permanent home.
Humans receive space for healing, connection, and growth.
Together, this creates a model where healing is shared, sustainable, and rooted in compassion.
